HURRICANES

Hurricanes are natural phenomena of low atmospheric pressure that develop in tropical waters with stormy clouds, strong winds and abundant rainfall spinning counterclockwise. They are formed each summer in the Mexican Pacific Ocean and cause significant damage to the general population when they make landfall.

In spite of the tremendous progress of satellites that allow a hurricane to be geographically located and follow its course to predict the path and force of its short life, all would be in vain if the predictable consequences were not known from land and established policies and procedures of what to do before, during and after its landfall are not put into practice. In the last two decades we have witnessed sensible humane and financial arrangements to cope with the landfall of a hurricane to these tropical coasts.

Pueblo Bonito Group, through the Letty Copel Foundation, is aware that a hurricane is an emergency situation that requires planning and organization to prevent severe damage in the homes of its contributors as well as in the hotels’ tourist facilities and to implement the contingency plan in the shelters that serve as temporary shelter for guests and contributors. For this, it has the certification of Secure Temporary Shelters by the State Civil Protection; where the main and predominant factor is the preservation of physical integrity, supplying basic provisions during the passing of the storm over the region.

The hotel consortium has consolidated with entities of the community in these types of difficult events, as in 2001 when hurricane Juliette caused severe damage to homes, water systems, highways, electricity, telephone, gasoline, etc. It was through the Hotel Pueblo Bonito Rose’s potable water desalinization plant, that vital water donations were made in a responsible, rational and controlled form to all the citizens who came to receive potable water after the infrastructure of the wells, installations and branches of the potable water system were damaged by the hurricane.

In this way Pueblo Bonito Group, through the Letty Coppel Foundation, has consolidated with the community, its inhabitants and the Municipal and State government during emergencies when timely solidarity reactions that join efforts and will are the predominating factors for repair of damages and the main infrastructure of the sustainable destination, therefore returning employment sources and businesses to normal as soon as possible, since this is a tourism destination of international status.
